DC Fire and EMS personnel responded to a reported fire at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4 when flames ripped across every level of a home in the 3400 block of South Dakota Avenue NE, leaving firefighters in a perilous position.
According to officials, the conditions at the scene of the house fire forced crews outside the structure temporarily, though a team of 20 units and approximately 100 first responders had the visible fire knocked down shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
While battling the blaze, two non-life-threatening injuries, including one firefighter, were reported and Pepco had to be rushed down to the scene to de-energize and remove live wires that fell on a firetruck.
Five occupants of the home have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
